About ChessAlerts

ChessAlerts watches official rating databases and sends a notification when a player's rating moves. Enter a US Chess or FIDE ID and it tracks Regular, Quick and Blitz on the US Chess side, Standard, Rapid and Blitz on the FIDE side, and keeps a rating history. A Page Watch feature does the same for any web page, which is useful for tournament standings or results pages that update without warning. It runs in the browser with nothing to install; sign-in is by Google or magic link. Built for tournament players, the parents who follow their results, and coaches tracking a group of students.

The verdict

ChessAlerts does one thing: it tells you when a rating changes. For a player in US tournaments that is a real annoyance solved. Ratings post to the US Chess database at an unpredictable time after an event, and the usual routine is to keep reloading the member page. Add a US Chess or FIDE ID, pick Telegram, WhatsApp or email, and the new number arrives as a message, with the history kept on the dashboard.

It is most useful to the people watching several players at once. A coach with a dozen students, or a parent with two children on the scholastic circuit, can follow all of them from one list on the Pro plan, and the Page Watch feature extends the same idea to tournament crosstables and results pages that federations don't notify anyone about. For a single adult player, the free plan - one player, Telegram, a check every 30 minutes - is all that's needed.

The FIDE side is worth less than the marketing suggests. FIDE publishes its rating list once a month, so a FIDE alert is a monthly event however often the service checks; the US Chess alerts are where the speed pays off. The homepage also leads with WhatsApp, which the free plan doesn't include.

The operation behind it is thin. The domain dates from March 2026, the legal page names no company or person and gives no contact address, and there is no outside discussion of the product yet. Payments run through Paddle, so a refund doesn't depend on reaching the operator, but it is worth knowing who you are paying. This review is based on the site and the pricing page; we did not create an account.

For a tournament player or a chess parent tired of checking rating pages by hand, the free plan costs nothing to try. Pay for Pro only if you follow several players or need WhatsApp.

Pros

  • Solves one narrow problem properly: no more refreshing the US Chess MSA page after every tournament
  • Covers both federations and every time control each one rates, from a single list of player IDs
  • Page Watch turns any tournament standings or results page into an alert, which neither federation offers
  • The free plan is enough for a player following their own rating
  • Unlimited players on Pro makes it practical for a coach or a parent with several children in tournaments

Cons

  • "Instant" means less for FIDE: the rating list is published once a month, so a FIDE alert arrives on the 1st, not after the event
  • The homepage promises WhatsApp alerts, but the free plan is Telegram only and checks every 30 minutes
  • No operator is named anywhere: the legal page gives no company, address or contact email - Paddle, as merchant of record, is the only identifiable party to a payment
  • Launched in March 2026 with no reviews or community discussion found as of October 2026
  • A weekly $2.49 plan works out at more than double the monthly price over a month - pick monthly or annual
