About Stockfish Chess

Stockfish is not really an app - it's the open-source engine that powers analysis inside Chess.com, Lichess, ChessBase and half the other apps in this directory. The official Stockfish Chess iOS/macOS app by Daylen Yang is a minimal front-end purpose-built for deep analysis: feed it a PGN or FEN, watch Syzygy tablebase probes, MultiPV lines, and WDL probabilities. Not a playing app - competes with LucasChess and Nibbler for the 'pure analysis board' slot. Free, ad-free, GPLv3.

Pros

  • Strongest publicly available chess engine
  • Free, open source, no telemetry
  • Syzygy tablebase and MultiPV support
  • Trusted by grandmasters and every major platform

Cons

  • Minimal UI - pure analysis, no play
  • Android requires separate GUI app
  • Position setup is keyboard-driven, not graphical
